How to keep the spark alive

Many times, couples come to therapy because they are bored in their marriage and are not sure what to do about it. It is seen far more times than not in a therapists office. People fall in love and picture the honeymoon stage lasting forever. Many couples don’t realize that it takes work from both parties to keep the magic alive. In order to this, communication is key. It is important to remind each other why you fell in love and try to recreate the amazing times that were once had. Let’s face it, life gets in the way sometimes but if you can put it on the calendar to have a date night once a week that works for both of you, this can make a huge difference in your relationship. It’s a good idea for each person to come up with their own list of what they think is “fun” and “exciting”. Together, they can look over the lists to make a mutual one that they both agree on. Pick an activity and schedule the date to add some spark back in your relationship. Finding and remembering the spark that brought you together is the key to keeping the marriage alive and have fun while you’re doing it.
